And so, fresh from Romics this year, I'll spare you the report on the convention (if you're interested I'm writing a couple of posts about the two days I attended, with some reviews of films broadcast - Of course everything in Albion language) and I decide to spend time with you purchases with paper and I donated a bit for a little pleasure out of duty and a little curiosity.
's start with the first purchase, Shigurui 10.
Of course I already knew the story because I'd already procured online, but it's always nice to read this volume, bloody, violent and surreal at the same time silently (and then you want to put the paper product to have on hand ..? The screens are of Yamaguchi POETRY).
Take the first chapter, for example, "without hesitation": the author manages to convey the passions and feelings of extreme Seigen EVEN WITHOUT USING A DIALOGUE. A fantastic chapter
dumb.
The reason why I had longed for this volume, however, is the author interview at the end of volume.
I have the original text of the interview, 100 questions are addressed in Yamaguchi by its readers. The booklet Italy there are only 88.
include unpublished applications, there was a leader on the Sengoku era Yamaguchi's favorite, his answer was Sanada Yukimura.
Here is a small selection of my favorite responses:
What do you think of the war?
Ever since the human being, there has never been a time without war. I think the battles will never end. I too must continue to fight in the comic, and I want to win. So I think the solution is to create international rules which limit the types of attack and observe them strictly.
What do you think is the task for humanity in the twenty-first century?
As I said before, I think we should establish universal rules, like not using a particular type of biological weapons or use nuclear energy in a certain way. But I also know that the rules are often not observed. So I do not know. What
fear most?
Nihilism.
What is the thing I want more now?
do not know. Want to think it is recognized as a failure, then its failure. And since I can not think of anything to be desired, it probably means that not enough thought about myself.
Among his works what's that like? All
. None of my comics is boring. They are all beautiful. I really think.
there a model from which he took inspiration for Kogan?
When I met the master Nanjo I thought: "Ah ... He was here." Kogan is the embodiment of the genius of the master Nanjo.
not make the impression of violent scenes that draw?
at all. In fact, not as violent. The violent scenes discussing the difference with the editor. I always feel that my cartoon is a quiet area.
Through the comics I drew so far there is a common theme or message would that send?
I think so, but if readers do not understand this legend, useless talk.
What is the most important talent to become a cartoonist?
The strength to believe in things unseen. If you want to draw the monsters that live in the basement, you can not draw them if you do not really believe. You must have determination. These are things that you can not see at that moment, but that you must believe to achieve them.
We now immense immense Tezuka Black Jack.
I bought the book because it is the 20th volume in which the episode is dedicated to Rokuro Makube, the childhood friend of Black Jack "borrowed" from the identity of Rock Holmes - And if you do not know What I am talking about, check out my post Previous on MW , when I speak of the "Star System" Tezuka and this illuminating essay by Tezuka in Inglese : there is to fall in love.
I admit with shame that, considering the price is obscene, I collected only the volumes of Black Jack with the "important points" of history: the introduction of Pinoko and its woes, the childhood of Kuro, the sad story 'love with Kei, the arrival of Kiriko and so on ... This volume adds an important element to the life of KURO.
A very interesting piece, among others. Also in this episode
Rokuro is represented as a negative character, which was relatively small even negative: ignored by classmates because liar, is part of the "outcast" with Kuro, and strangely fond of you there ... I wonder how he did it KURO, which is a bad appearance but essentially a good heart, to get along with Rokuro, beautiful outside but bitter inside ... Suggestive.
I finally found the courage to spend 10 € 10 for the purchase of the master Akame Shirato.
Honestly, I would have gladly avoided the purchase, but I saw the volume there, I thought that was the only work translated into Italian by Shirato-sensei has come down and what the hell, I bought it even if it is a communist absurd.
You see, what bothers me a little Shirato and all authors of his time, is that they have this vision of power so absurdly violent and grotesque - Ok, social criticism and so on, but I do not think in the 60s the Japanese ruling class is to amuse and then disembowel disemboweled pregnant women and fetuses matryoshka effect ... Well, sometimes I feel that Shirato use these historical metaphors to describe the situation as it relates to the Japan Society of time a little indiscriminately: basically just seems like that inflame against authority.
what about when he criticizes the people who follow religions ..?
"I still am an atheist, and I never believed, nor even revered, no god or Buddha" says Shirato-sensei.
Oh well, you can tell by the end of shit that reserve, for all the protagonists of your manga D:!
However, despite these extreme views of the author, the work is very intelligent and interesting, and presents an unusual but effective alternative to trick the implementation of a blatant revenge. A slow
revenge, absolute, sacrosanct.
After killing the local squire psychopath (whose hobby is killing and torturing its main labor force, let us not forget) and avenged the unjust death of his wife, the horizon disappears Matsuzo dragging the head of his tormentor down the road, dead after being appropriately tortured, leaving behind uncertain eyes of the peasants ... Victorious but baffled.
Another interesting cue is the nature of calls Shirato, connected to another of his works, based on studies of the naturalist Ernest Thompson Seton.
A stimulating read, nevertheless.
... I also found the time to imagine situations Yaoi Nobuhiro between the evil and the equally treacherous Ikkaku.
In closing, La Fenice's always a great Tezuka.
Apparently La Fenice can be considered his oeuvre, in which the author wanted to compress all his beliefs, "cosmic" in a narrative that would coincide with the narrative of human history itself in an alternation indiscriminate between past and future.
fixed point of the work, the mythological figure of the Phoenix, and as a symbol of eternal life and wisdom is portrayed as a target hours of human greed, now as a dispenser of gifts or terrible punishments depending on the situation.
God? Messenger? Alien ..? There is no data to know, but remains as a metaphor for the absolute that man tents, driven by his smallness.
"But why you do not die, and we human beings? Why this injustice?"
"Injustice? What is more desirable, the power of not dying or the joy of living?"
"Behold, I really do not know! But I think we would be happy if we do not morissimo!"
"Nagi, look at your feet.
Watch the insects. Although they live, but only for a few days.
The ephemeral existence was brief. Even when giving birth of children, died after three days, yet does not complain !
"But it does not understand a worm?"
"The insects, in their short existence they grow, feed, love, lay eggs and die happy!
You humans live longer than insects, fish, dogs, cats and monkeys.
If during the your lives are unable to discover the joy of life, not happiness? "
"I do not know why, but I do not understand what you say! Anyway, I'll kill you!"
The first volume, The Book of Dawn pt.I (and the second course I did not buy because I ran out of money, The Book of Dawn pt.II ) portrays the mythological era of the dawn of civilization.
Tezuka rewrites the myths and folklore figures frown Japanese comic but also subtle criticism and irony ... The sense of humor is innate in the stretch of Tezuka, and the ease with which half is playing with comics is always disturbing - Look at this table, for example, with the cartoon character who jumps from vignette "physically", parodying the very structure of the concept of Framing
All in all I guess I'll have to buy even La Fenice selectively given the absurd prices of books.
account to order volume 2 (The Book of Dawn pt.II ), 3 ( The Book of the Future) and 5 and 6 (The Book of Myth ) ... Vabbeh, listens, I will update you immediately on my comic misadventures.
I know I can not wait.
